Sony Ericsson Open – Day 4 & 5 Coverage

Press Conference (Day 4)

Day 5 – Vs. Diego Junqueira

Andy cruised in his first round of the Sony Ericsson Open with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Diego Junqueira. Under the lights on Key Biscayne, Andy took stadium court wearing his signature black Lacoste polo. He quickly claimed the momentum of the set breaking Diego twice for a commanding 5-1 lead. Despite a relatively low first serve percentage, Andy still fired four aces and clinched the first set 6-1 in under a half an hour.

His dominating night at the office continued when Andy immediately broke the Argentine in the opening game of the second set for 1-0. With his calm determination, Andy’s blitz continued as he held for 2-0. Andy was in complete control as he powered for yet another break at love to surge to 3-0. The one sided affair continued when Andy held comfortably for 4-0.

With a hopeful applause for the underdog, fans cheered along Diego as he got on the board by holding his serve at 4-1. Andy, however, wasn’t going to give the fans in Key Biscayne a closer match, and he quickly served his way to 5-1.

The final game of the set was by far the most exciting brining the stadium to a standing ovation several times. Diego stumbled on his serve, double faulting his chance to seal the game. Andy patiently rallied with the Argentine to earn several match points. A net cord and Hawkeye challenge saved Diego on two separate occasions. Andy steered the course wearing down Diego, and finally the Argentine fired a forehand wide, landing Andy in the next round with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in less than an hour.

Next, Andy faces Dmitry Tursunov. Check back to Ar.com for more updates from the Sony Ericsson Open.
